They are so similar to us yet they are so different. No wonder they are our ancestors. Yes, these are the last living Mountain Gorillas and a trek in these forests of Rwanda can bring you up-close with these apes. The 7-day expedition is meant for wildlife photographers who are looking for an intensive portfolio of Gorilla and Chimpanzee images.
Situated in the Great Rift Valley and known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda is one of the last places on earth which is home to the endangered Mountain Gorilla and Chimpanzees. The country offers a unique experience with its incredible biodiversity which supports amazing wildlife in its mountains, volcanoes and plains. The dense rain forests are home to a variety of primate species and this tour has been specially tailor made to make sure that in just a week, you are immersed an adventure that will take you into the heart of this country’s wildlife and culture. You will be visiting both the Nyungew National Park and the Volcanoes Gorilla Park, which has the largest population of Mountain Gorillas in the world. You can spend time face to face with these magnificent primates, along with photographing the Golden monkey and Chimpanzees. A special visit to Lake Kivu and interaction with the local community will leave you with a bag full of memories and an incredible experience to take back home.
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, we will meet you and transsfer you to your hotel for the night.
Post an early morning coffee and breakfast, we will check out and head ooff towards the Western Province, stopping at the Royal Palace Museum and Ethnographic Museum. With this visit, you will be introduced to the great history of traditional ways of living among Rwandans and their past. We will reach Nyungwe National Park in the afternoon where you can spend your time in the lodge at your leisure.
We will begin the day early, as we will be trekking for Chimpanzees todayy. Post breakfast, we will transfer you to the national park where you will be briefed about the trek. Nyungwe is well known for having 13 species of primates and you will be entitled to one hour for finding the chimpanzees. After doing the chimpanzee trek, we will head for lunch before the canopy walk. The walk over a 90 meters suspended metallic bridge will give you a great overview of Nyungwe forest and there is a chance of spotting a few more primates in the forest. We will be back at the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
An early morning will begin with the beautiful sun rise over Lake Kivu, just after getting done with your breakfast. We will take a boat ride to explore the beautiful attractions within this great lake. A nature walk at one of the islands within this lake will allow you to explore this location which is known for harboring thousands of bats. This lake is also known as a birding paradise. Post lunch, we will get back on the road for our drive Musanze, a tourism area near Volcanoes National Park. Once we check in at the lodge, the evening can be spent at your leisure.
Post breakfast, we will head off for our Gorilla trek. A briefing will bbe given by the rangers before we enter the park. Packed lunch will be there to be enjoyed in the bush. After tracking the gorillas, you can sit around these great apes for a whole hour watching their social life as you take pictures. We will return to the lodge post this trek and in the afternoon, a visit to the local village for a foot safari will immerse you in the local culture. Dinner will be at the lodge.
Post breakfast, our safari driver will pick you and transfer you to the park headquarters for a quick briefing before we start the day for Golden monkey trekking. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, we will be spending our time tracking and photographing these beautiful primates. We will return to the lodge for lunch and then start our drive back to Kigali.
After getting done with your relaxed morning breakfast, we will transferr you to the airport for your onward flight. End of service!

Equipments can't restrict you from participating in our photo tour. You can touch base with the NW team for possible equipment rental options and we would try to equip you adequately based on the nature of the program you are enrolling for.

Our team spends maximum time in the wilderness and is up-to-date with sighting reports because which we are able to plan out the photo tour effectively. In addition to this, you can bug our experienced photography escorts and trainers with your photography queries - be it field tips, basic or advanced photography queries, post processing of images etc.
In case of established national parks, NW ensures the best of facilities in the form of comfortable rooms and the best in class safari experience. However whenever infrastructure is an issue, we try to give the best of what is avaialble. Photography is our key focus and we do not compromise on that part. Our endeavor has always been to give our participants the maximum productive field time.
