The land of 7 mountains, rivers, waterfalls & valleys, Satpura National Park is Central India's hidden treasure. Known for its leopard and sloth bear sightings, Satpura has emerged as one of the key wildlife photography hubs in the region. Satpura After Dark is however a unique program designed by Nature Wanderers which not only gives you a sneak peak into the nocturnal world of this dense forest but also helps you to learn more about a different element of wildlife and nature photography - shooting nature after dark.
Night reveals a lot of stories in a jungle but as wildlife photographers we are used to photographing wildlife during the day hours. Tigers, leopards and a plethora of species become active after the sunset and Satpura After Dark would open this new and unique world of cats - big or small. Talking of small, it can also be the smallest wild cat in the world - the Rusty spotted cat which can be seen during the buffer game drives at times along with species like civets, badgers, owls etc.
The second element of Satpura After Dark would be your introduction to camera trapping and camera trap photography as we would be setting up these traps and training you on the process and dynamics of this form of wildlife study and photography in some of the private lands which have a concrete data of wildlife sightings.
While your camera traps are working through the night, in the company of our resident naturalist and photographer, you can explore the miniature world of Satpura and create a unique body of work during the tour which comprises of mammals, birds, rare species and the macro world.
Key Highlights :
- 05 Night drives in the buffer zone of Satpura in search of nocturnal wildlife
- Training on camera trapping
- Night Macro photography
Note - Camera traps and DSLR camera trap technology would be provided by Nature Wanderers. Every photographer will be given a trap camera and the data recorded in these cameras would belong to that individual photographer.

Are there no park game drives in this program?
No. Satpura After Dark concentrates on the buffer areas of this region. The buffer is highly productive not only in terms of cats like tigers, leopards and bears but also nocturnal wildlife. The Rusty spotted cat is the prized catch and your nights would be highly successful if you manage to photograph the world's smallest cat weighing just over a kilogram!
I don't have camera trap technology. How do I get this for this program?
If you have your own camera traps, you are welcome to get them. If you don't, Nature Wanderers would be providing you with cameras, which you can use for this program. These setups would be a mix of trail cams and DSLR cameras.
What is the preparation I need to do for shooting wildlife after dark?
Get your routine gears. If you use f2.8 lenses like the 70-200mm, 300mm, 400mm, it would be highly beneficial and recommended to get these glasses. If you have flashes, ring lights or modes to fire off camera flashes get them for macro photography. For any more queries, talk to the Nature Wanderers team.
